Imagine finding a lump in your breast – your anxiety level rises as you wonder where you will find care because you don’t have health insurance. Imagine receiving an eviction notice – you are unable to work because you are undergoing cancer treatment. Imagine being in pain from your cancer surgery but you cannot afford pain medications.

Each week the Breast Cancer Care Foundation receives calls from women and men in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area who either have breast cancer, are afraid they may have it, or know someone who is dealing with breast cancer and its treatment. Even individuals who have insurance to cover their treatment may still have problems coming up with enough money to pay their rent when the treatments impact their ability to work. They may need money to pay for a breast prosthesis and mastectomy bra; they may need money to help pay for child care so they can get their needed treatment. They may need money for parking fees or transportation related to their care.

At the Breast Cancer Care Foundation, we provide these individuals with hope. Oncology social workers and nurses volunteering with BCCF help guide callers to places in the community where they can find help if it is available; when none is available, our funds work to help meet the needs of our applicants.
